Prepare for your French residency or nationality exam with expert preparation
If you're applying for French nationality (B1 level), a 10-year residency permit (A2 level), or need to validate an A1 level for the OFII Integration Pathway, get ready with specialized preparation that sets you up for success in the TCF IRN and TEF IRN exams.
Understanding the TCF & TEF IRN exams requirements
To start, it’s important to know what these exams cover and what’s expected from you. The TCF IRN and TEF IRN exams test your French language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. These skills show your readiness for French residency or nationality. Our program is designed to help you understand the exam structure and requirements, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
Language proficiency
Strong language skills are essential. Our program focuses on each area to help you communicate clearly and confidently in French.
- Speaking practice with real-life scenarios
- Listening exercises with French media
- Reading comprehension with diverse texts
- Writing tasks to improve grammar and style
Exam Structure
The TEF IRN consists of four mandatory sections:
- Written Comprehension: 13 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 30 minutes on a computer.
- Oral Comprehension: 17 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 10 minutes on a computer.
- Written Expression: 2 topics to be completed in a total of 30 minutes on a computer.
- Oral Expression: 2 topics to be completed in 5 minutes each, for a total of 10 minutes, in a face-to-face session with an examiner.
Duration and administration
The entire exam must be taken in one day. If the score obtained in one of the sections does not satisfy the candidate, they must retake the entire test. It is possible to retake the test as many times as desired, with a 30-day waiting period between each attempt.
Levels and results
The TEF IRN evaluates skills up to the B1 level. The levels achieved are determined by the following scores:
- Level A1: Score of 100 or higher in each section.
- Level A2: Score of 200 or higher in at least three sections and 167 or higher in each section. This level is required for obtaining a 10-year residence permit.
- Level B1: Score of 300 or higher in at least three sections and 267 or higher in each section. This level is required for naturalization procedures.
